How to play

The puzzle game Jewel Magic is played as a duel, i.e. two players play against each other. The players, however, need not play simultaneously, meaning one can play after his/her opponent has finished.

Five different coloured jewels cover the Jewel Magic playing field at the start of the game. The aim of the game is to clear all of the dark fields under the jewels in the fewest moves possible. The position of adjacent jewels can be switched with a click of the mouse. Only moves which form a line of at least three like jewels (either horizontally or vertically) are valid. If this is achieved, the jewels and the dark fields below them are cleared.

The remaining hole is filled by new jewels, which can lead to chain reactions.

Special Stone

This Special Stone explodes after three moves have been made, clearing the jewels surrounding it. Such stones appear during the course of a game. Below the playing field is a large crystal – a further Special Stone. This can be placed at any time during the game in the playing field. It will be positioned precisely where the most dark fields will be cleared once it explodes.

Compass

The compass displays the direction in which the jewels will enter the playing field. The direction changes during the game in a clock-wise motion.

Points

For every move made 100 points are deducted. Therefore the player should attempt to clear the field in the fewest moves possible. Sometimes chain reactions are caused. If a line of 4 jewels is cleared during a chain reaction, the point value increases by 1 for every further jewel cleared in the corresponding chain. A line of 3 is therefore worth 6 points instead of 3.

• Creating a line of 3 like jewels is worth 3 points.
• Creating a line of 4 like jewels is rewarded with 4 points. If the player sets off a chain reaction following a 4 jewel combination, each chain is worth 6 points instead of 3 for the corresponding move.
• Clearing a dark field is worth 50 points.
• Using the Special Stone costs 300 points.
• The Special Stone clears all of the surrounding jewels.
• Players who complete Jewel Magic receive the Magic Bonus of 10,000 points.
